The professional association of Saxony - Interview Ruairí O'Brien - "shop window"
Die Architektenkammer Sachsen feiert in diesem Jahr 20. Geburtstag.
Am 13. April 1991 wurde die Vereinigung, die sich selbst als ein „Ordnungsinstrument im Bereich des Planens und Bauens“ versteht und inzwischen rund has 2600 members, was founded. Based in Dresden architect and lighting designer Ruairí O 'Brien takes care of the artistic design of the accompanying anniversary year program "showcase-BETTER WITH ARCHITECTS," whose goal is to bring the profession of architect to the people and touch to ease fears . DNN have the opportunity to talk with the 48-year-old O 'Brien, who comes from Ireland and came shortly after the turn in the same city.
Mr. O 'Brien, is at the beginning of each mission a vision. Then, days and weeks crafted models, designs on the drawing board and worked in the computer, which eventually grow into a real house, room, garden or a park. Magic?
Ruairí O 'Brien: Not at all, even if it is safe for lay people often looks the part. For me, architecture and crafts but especially with a lot of creativity and inventive spirit has to do. Ultimately, it is a profession that everyone is wearing a bit further into themselves.
With me, you could certainly start but not much in her office.
Why not? The responsibilities of architects is extremely diverse, a reflection of society. You need meticulous Planners, visionaries, computer specialists, sociologists, lawyers and, ultimately, good writer, in order to convey the message behind a project in magazines or exhibition panels. Who wants to place in our profession its place. I personally understand architecture as a symbiosis between art and science.
In this big headline is that you create annual approach the Chamber of Architects of Saxony. What are you doing?
On the program on the one hand, artistic subjects such as literature, + film, exhibitions, lectures and workshops in different areas. We want to show such films, which Architecture tell, were influenced by or have influenced this. On the other hand, it can also go very pragmatic about building materials or "ingredients" from which we build our cities and houses, such as brick, sandstone, wood, concrete, steel to highly innovative modern building products that are intended to illustrate the enormous diversity in the construction. In summer, the often invisible to the public part of the creative work of architects is at the center, so drawings and sketches. I also want to set the house of the architect in Dresden in December to a poignant, sensual, poetic light.
Is the building on the avenue in the heart of Goethe Birthday celebrations?
Yes, even if not all events will take place there. What we plan this year, will ultimately reach far beyond 2011th I would be happy if they developed the House of Architects, step by step to an open meeting place. For the anniversary year, I will build an exhibition installation, which can develop into a sustainable micro museum to teach architecture. The projects are now being pushed a start. We see ourselves as a living space designer, as a service to the people and fulfilling their wishes. Therefore, the House of Architects not only administration, but also a space for the Dresden and Saxony.
it bother you that sometimes, the public is talking almost exclusively about the stars of the scene such as Daniel Libeskind and Sir Norman Foster?
No. Such well-known architects are very important for the profile. But they are on the other hand, only a small component within our profession. Makes me sad that architects are generally overshadowed in the public eye. Many work in administration or business and without it, a development of cities like Dresden was simply not possible. However, they go to their jobs quietly. We therefore want the 20th Anniversary of the Chamber of Architects of Saxony as an opportunity to make such a small number of individual services known and appreciated more.
there been in the GDR, the profession of the architect?
Today's professional self-image was incompatible with a static system such as the GDR. The architectural profession as we understand it today has a lot to do with independence, freedom and democracy. It brings together many individuals and creative spirits, is strongly influenced by the spirit of a free economy. Architecture has been used within the dictatorship to expressing the political system. Architecture today reflects the complexity of our democratic system again, the diversity innerhalb einer Gesellschaft zu gewährleisten, was hoch kompliziert sein kann, wenn man einen Konsens sucht, aber bereichernd ist.
